Portrait session with Ludwika

Last weekend turned out to be very productive, creative and also very nice.
On Friday I had a pleasure of taking portrait pictures of Ludwika. Our planned one hour session easily turned into almost a four hours affair.

Chelsea Flower Show

About two years ago, I discovered a passion for plants and beautiful gardens. Everything started in my friend's amazing backyard. Many unique flowers and distinctive hand forged metalwork garden structures create a real paradise!

A taste of what's to come...

I spent most of last Saturday photographing Nitish & Deimantei's wedding. It was a wonderful celebration, created around diverse traditions which influenced the couple. The whole event was very colourful, from the red carpet and stained glass windows in the English church, to the lovely Sarees of the groom's relatives: amazing colours everywhere!

I hope that I'll get the chance to photograph another wedding as interesting as Nitish & Deimantei's.

Here are a few photographs from this event. I still have many pictures to select and retouch, so this is a taste of what's to come...

What makes an interesting background?

For me part of the fun of portrait photography is finding interesting backgrounds. Sometimes the least expected places are the best. It could be a brick wall, a garage door or a stairwell.
I usually look for colours and textures, as well as interesting lines. When I shoot, I make sure I shoot wide open; I usually drop the f stop to 2 on my AF-Nikkor 50mm 1:1.4D. Why not down to f/1.4? A while ago I learnt, that the biggest aparture isn't unfortunately the sharpest. f/2 gives a nice shallow depth of field and works well to isolate the subject.

Nitish & Deimantei's pre-wedding session in Regent's Park

I met up with Nitish and Deimantei in Regent’s Park on Easter Sunday for their pre-wedding session. The weather was beautiful and the couple was so wonderful that the planned hour session easily turned into a several hour shoot.

The pre-wedding sessions are more than just photo shoots. They allow us to get to know each other, so the couple can feel comfortable around me and my camera from the very beginning of their wedding day. After all, photography is about capturing and preserving moments which are colored by personalities and emotions. A personal relationship with the couple is essential to me come wedding day.

Pre-wedding session... what can it give you?

Pre-wedding session, it's a fun photo shoot, which gives you an opportunity to get to know your potential photographer. It is a perfect ice-breaker and will let you be more relaxed on your wedding day.
It's a chance to work out what kind of photography works best for you and it provides you with many nice, romantic images from your engagement period!

35. when your own brother asks you to organise a pre-wedding photo shoot for him! (LOL). It's not even the fact they won't pay you:) It's the fact, they are soooo relaxed and undisciplined, that you just have to go with a flow! Seriously now - I LOVED IT!:)
